Vapour Central Update
UK Vape Duty 2026 Explained (22p per ml): What It Means for Prices & How We’re Helping
A new UK vape tax is coming in October 2026. Most customers haven’t heard the details yet, so here’s the simple, no-nonsense breakdown — plus what we’re doing to keep things as fair as possible.
The government is introducing a new excise duty called Vaping Products Duty. In plain terms: it’s a tax on vape liquid (e-liquid) based on how many millilitres are in the product.
Official guidance (GOV.UK): Introduction of Vaping Products Duty from 1 October 2026
When does UK Vape Duty start?
The duty is set to start on 1 October 2026. That date matters because the duty applies to vape liquid that is manufactured in or imported into the UK under the new rules.
How much is the Vape Duty?
The rate is set at 22p per ml. You’ll also see it written as £2.20 per 10ml. That’s a flat rate based on volume.
Simple way to remember it:
Duty = ml × £0.22
What products will be affected?
If it contains vape liquid, expect it to be affected. That typically includes:
- 10ml e-liquid bottles
- Nicotine salts (10ml bottles)
- Shortfills (e.g. 50ml / 100ml bottles)
- Prefilled pods (commonly 2ml per pod)
- Pre-Filled vapes (because they contain e-liquid)
The big takeaway: it’s not “a tax on devices”. It’s primarily about the liquid volume.
What could this do to prices?
We can’t predict every final shelf price because brands and supply chains vary, but we can show what the duty alone looks like using the 22p/ml rate.
Quick duty examples (duty only)
- 2ml pod → 2 × £0.22 = £0.44 duty
- 10ml bottle → 10 × £0.22 = £2.20 duty
- 50ml shortfill → 50 × £0.22 = £11.00 duty
- 100ml shortfill → 100 × £0.22 = £22.00 duty
Note: VAT and other costs still apply in the usual way across the chain. This section is just showing the duty amount on the liquid volume.
Why is the government doing this?
The government’s aim is to introduce a new duty framework for vaping products. Whatever your view, the practical impact is simple: it adds an extra cost per ml across the market.
What Vapour Central is doing to help
We can’t control government tax policy, but we can control how we respond — and we’re taking this seriously because vaping needs to remain a realistic alternative for adult smokers.
1) Negotiating harder with suppliers
We’re actively bartering and negotiating with manufacturers and distributors to keep costs down where possible. If we can hold prices, we will.
2) Better-value bundles and multi-buys
As duty approaches, buying smarter will matter more. Expect more structured bundle deals and multi-buy offers designed around what customers actually use.
3) Helping customers choose cost-effective setups
We’ll keep guiding customers toward setups that make sense for their budget and routine — without pushing you into something that won’t satisfy you.
If you’re newer to vaping, start with our Beginner Starter Kits.
4) No mystery price jumps
If prices change, we’ll explain why. No vague “supplier issues” smoke screens. We’ll be transparent about what’s changing and when.
Practical tips to prepare (without panic-buying)
- Know what you use: pod users, 10ml users, and shortfill users will see different impacts.
- Reduce waste: burnt coils and wrong purchases get more expensive when duty lands.
